PLATINUM!   Leave a comment

popular_platinum

What’s even better than gold? Platinum of course! So, if I was pleased that The GM’s Planet-Building Handbook reached Gold seller status at drivethruRPG.com, you can imagine how I felt when, little more than a week later, it moved on to Platinum! This is the top level, currently attained by only 0.93% of the products that drivethruRPG offer.

If I may boast just a little, a lot of work went into researching this product and finding ways to make it as accessible and usable as possible while keeping it grounded in science. I’m really pleased so many customers have enjoyed it.

If you’re curious, you can find out more about it here.

GOLD!   Leave a comment

popular_gold

I’m VERY pleased to announce our first ever title going Gold at drivethrurpg.com. Yes, The GM’s Planet-Building Handbook has reached the Gold seller award level. That puts it in the top 2.81% of all drivethrurpg.com titles in terms of sales (yes, that’s a very precise percentage and no, I don’t know why that’s the criterion!).

Obviously I’m very proud to have a product reach this milestone! If you’re interested in a resource that helps you quickly and easily design a believable inhabited planet (for a mere $3.95, I might add), then why not do what many have done before you and check it out? New product: Dig-In For Victory   Leave a comment

Ok, our latest resource is now available. Dig-In For Victory! is mainly intended for wargame designers wanting some information about warfare in the late 19th/early 20th centuries. However, there’s a lot of data that is transferable to other periods, as far back as medieval times, plus some useful stuff for RPGs.

The resource contains extracts from the Royal Engineers’ Manual of Field Engineering 1911. Lots of useful stuff about digging defences, creating fortifications, building bridges, defending various types of location and blowing things up. Plus scans of the original illustrations, including some great plans for outposts and strongholds.

As this will of varying usefulness, depending what you want from it, we’re using the ‘Pay What You Want’ option at wargamevault for the first time.  Click on the image below to have a look at our storefront page there, where you will have the option to preview this product.

New project…   Leave a comment

I’m still giving some thought to the free mini-games for the next catalogue, but meanwhile another project has suggested itself to me. I was de-junking my home office when I found an old book I forgot I had even bought: a copy of the 1914 reprint of the Manual of Field Engineering 1911. It seems it belonged to a Regimental Sergeant Major T.A. Mellor of the Royal Engineers. Anyway, reading through it (to put off doing any more tidying and sorting) it struck me what a lot of great information there is in it for anyone planning a game that needs to be informed about the sort of defences or field work that could be completed at short notice.

Obviously the book is written from the perspective of the British Army at the start of the 20th Century, but it would be reasonable to assume other nations had similar capabilities, and the manual remained in use well into the inter-war years. Plus, the basic tools of axes, spades and picks haven’t changed much over the centuries, so you could extrapolate a lot of the information back to the Middle Ages if you wanted.

You could use the information to work out what sort of cover an infantry battalion could create during a war game turn, to create a realistic defence post for a skirmish game or even to work out how long the characters will take unearthing that ancient eldritch artefact in a RPG.

The book’s condition isn’t great, but I’ll scan the best illustrations and summarise the most useful information into one concise resource. More news when it’s nearing completion!

Announcing ‘Further Vistas: Stars & Systems’   1 comment

Yes, finally, we have a new product out! As mentioned in the last update, it’s a follow-up to 2011’s Distant Vistas (2011? Where did the time go!). Distant Vistas is a sci-fi RPG resource that gives a GM a broad introduction to a sector of space: as the name suggests, Further Vistas: Stars & Systems (hereafter FV:S&S to save typing!) builds on the star systems introduced in Distant Vistas. While Distant Vistas mentioned 25 star systems, full details were only given for four of them. FV:S&S completes that work, giving full details of all 25 stars and their planetary systems. Details of each planet are given, with information on any intelligent inhabitants and any significant military hardware they may have. There’s also a bit of history given to put the whole sector in context.

As with Distant Vistas, we hope FV:S&S will be of some help for GMs seeking that bit of inspiration for their next sci-fi campaign setting. And it’s all yours for just $2.95!

Click on the image below to have a look at the product at drivethrurpg.com, where you can see a free preview of the first few pages if you want.

Project Update   Leave a comment

Work is progressing on Further Vistas, though slower than anticipated. This is because I’ve decided to produce atlas-style maps of each planet, in both mercator and polar projections, and it’s quite time consuming! So far one planet has been completed – so 16 to go (plus star systems, plus alien races…).

Here’s a sneak peak of how the mapping will look, in this case for the planet of Oranto:

Announcing our next release   Leave a comment

While the finishing touches are being put to Argor FRPG I’ve turned my attention to a little side-project. It’s a GM’s resource called How to Create Great Fantasy Maps (Even if You Can’t Draw). The name says it all, really.

It’s in final proofing now and I’ll be releasing it on Thursday 7th August. Download price will be $1.50. There will probably be a print version available in due course.
